GURUVAYOOR SRI KRISHNA TEMPLE
Guruvayoor Sri Krishna Temple is one of the five famous temple in India. It is called the “Dwaraka of South”. Sri Krishna is the deity at the temple which is worshiped more than 5000 years old. Sri Krishna is the Avatar of God Vishnu. The worship in the temple is as per the routine by Adi Shankara in tantric way. The hereditary Tantirs (chief Poojari) are Chennas Nambudiris since 1427
It is considered as the Dwaraka of the south. The present idol is believed to be worshiped by Lord Brahma. When Dwaraka submerged under the sea, Guru the prospector and his disciple Vau and the god of wind where entrusted to find out a place a holy as Dwaraka to see the idol. During their search they met Parasurama the legendary creator of Kerala and he lead them to a lotus pond where Lord Siva and Parvathi were waiting to receive them with garland in their hands. The lotus pond is presently known as Rudratheertham. There is an elephant yar (Kunnathoor Kotta) just 3 kilometers away from the temple. There is also an institute imparting training in Krishnanattam. The place is 29 kilometers from Trichur which is easily accessible by road and rail.
The Pooja routines are strictly done without changes and the a full time Tantri is available at the Temple.The Chief Priest (Melsanti) enters to the temple in the morning and does not drink even water till the noon poojas are over at 12.30pm.
Only Hindus are allowed to enter to the temple with the traditional dress.
The Temple is situated in Trissur District in Kerala which is 30 Kilometres from the Trissur city centre which will take approximate 1 Hour by road. Cochin international airport is the nearest airport which is 80 Kilometres which will take Approximate 2 to 2 Hours 30 Minutes. There are trains also operating to Guruvayoor. The Temple Opens in the morning at 3 am (Nirmalyam) till 9.15pm. Temple will be closed from 1.30pm to 4.30pm

For Men : Traditional Dhothi (mundu) is allowed. Shirt, T-Shirt, Lungi Banian etc are not allowed
For Women : Saree, Salwar Kameez, Skirts and Blouse allowed
